Lot of build up for week end races. For punters it remains the same. No Special Dividend for picking Winners nor will club provide decent facilities . Club will frame Million races even for Junk VB races , does not enhance credibility of the junk.
There will be lot of Hype on few Horses , Owners , Jockeys & Trainers. Reality is this is 7 race card dominated by low class horses. Any other race day junk horse winners would fetch stakes in thousands. On pre derby day all race winners be it VB or class 2 get same stakes of nearly 5.1 lacs. Warped logic of the club.
With large fields in most races , not easy for riders to go justice as horse may not get the right opening or will meet with Interference. Reason to avoid Low Odds , be it Win or Place.
My choices are as follows - do consider them if it fetches more than Even for Place. If Odds are above Evens for Place , No harm in trying each way. Low Odds for Win or Place are best ignored.
1. Walk the Talk. Thunder Clap
Pure Junk horses , lucky are owners who get bumper stakes just because it is Derby week end. Foolish to justify merit in these races for there is no Best Horse. If they were good enough they would be running in derby. Obvious some horse has to Win , everyone will not bet on same horse.
Post odds - high priced Jodi of 4 & 5 - 5 odds is not worth a bet .WTT can be considered for Win or T.Clap for Place.
2. Moriseiki. Gdansk.
For the record Eagle in the Sky has Placed only once in its career , ie a Win in class VB . This is class 3 race and horse has also been on repair list.. So obviously ignored here. For those who bet on it , if it wins Good for you.
Golden Era concedes weight and with stable mate in fray , not possible to bet on it logically.
Play Safe , Goshawk - last 5 outings Unplaced.
Shortlisted horses have credentials , where they finish is any body's guess. With 2 payouts only sensible to skip if Win odds are low on fancied runner.
Post Odds - 6 starts as favorite primarily due to handicap. Up in class , first time 2400 trip. Those who play fancied horses can consider it as 2-4 being older horse does not appeal .
3. Lion King . One for the Glory.
Class IV race where form fluctuation's are the norm. Preference is to be given to horses which are Younger , have done well in recent outings & well placed on handicap.
Failed favorite on debut in lower class with work jockey - One for the Glory - worth a bet probably due to higher Odds and low weights.
Lion King was a runaway Winner and hence can't be ignored.
Noble Heir concedes weight .
Bait and Switch has seen better class. Those who follow Trevor can take a chance for Win. Place may be negligible.
Post Odds - 1 starts as favorite with 12 and 13 following closely. 3-1 Not worthy of a Win bet.
4. Skyfall. Treasure Hunt.
Foolish for anyone to be confident in races for 3 year old's where majority are making debut over sprint race .First Horses need to take a good jump , Pedigree is of no consequence. Jockey capability does matter.
Post odds - 4-2 does not appeal for obvious reasons. My choices remain the same.
5. Rainbow Trout. Majestic Warrior .
Valegro is older horse conceding weight and runs over unsuitable trip. All 5-6 year Old horses are ignored For WIN in this race due to presence of many quality 4 year old's.
Star Appearance is a decent horse , last run can be ignored as Tracks were horrible in chennai. Can do well.
Kariega is undoubtedly a better horse in this bunch . Last few runs have been pathetic but in graded races. Only negative is the rider whose form has been terrible for past 1 year. Lowest Win %. May have won a couple of races. Odds may not be in favour .
Malwa goes over right trip . Long straight may suit its style of running.
Post Odds - Valegro at 1.25 . Good luck 😑
9 each way can be considered due to age / handicap.
6. Mount Olympus. Run Forest Run.
But for horses 9-10-11 , rest have not Won in past 4 runs. These 3 horses beat nothing of note and hence ignored. Amongst the rest there are a few older horses which are demoted hence superior to the rest but are conceding weight. Since none of them are consistent , random choices are the norm.
post odds - 5 horses are listed in the odds. Looks like open affair. if fav is 2.5 obvious there are many horses to beat it.
7. Blazing Bay , Brilliant Gold.
Class VB race for all the junk horses fit enough to run over 1200 metres.
Post Odds - first favorite is best avoided as there is no clarity in Odds.

Most of my picks may not find favour but then how many favorites have ever Won in recent past
Good luck
